Letter from the past President, Mary E. Alexander, Esq.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Pound Institute,

I am pleased to announce that in January of 2006, the Board of Trustees of the Roscoe Pound Institute unanimously voted to change the Institute's name to the Pound Civil Justice Institute.

We still honor our namesake Dean Roscoe Pound, the legendary figure of American law who was once the President of the Foundation which bore his name. And by keeping "Pound," we still honor the giants of American law who founded our organization in his name.

But we have included 'civil justice' in our name to better reflect our mission, and that is protecting the jury system from attacks by tort reformers and other interests who would deny citizens their constitutional right of fair access to the courts.

And as an Institute, we are dedicated to using the most powerful tool known to mankind-education-to stand up for the rights of those injured by negligence.

As the Pound Civil Justice Institute celebrates its 50th anniversary, we will continue to provide educational programs for judges, foster outstanding scholarship, and spread the word that the American jury is worth defending.
